The sun is beginning its slow descent over the Mojave, painting the sky in shades of coral and lavender. The heat still lingers in the desert air, softened by the light breeze. You arrive at the entrance to Rasta Rita Cantina and Venue just outside Twentynine Palms. Rustic walls, restored military-supply-building charms, courtyards open to desert landscapes, mission-bell tower silhouettes, fire pits flickering in the twilight. It feels as if you are stepping into a canvas that is waiting for your story.

Maria and Alejandro wanted an event that was romantic, free-spirited, and bursting with the texture. They envisioned macramé hangers, rugs, lanterns, pampas grass décor, and a sage-scented desert ceremony under a setting sun. a sunset with string lights, a dinner in the evening with live acoustic music and a dancing floor illuminated with fairy lights.
They used the outdoor patio for their ceremony framed by the mission bell tower wall.
The indoor restored building served as cocktail hour and backup in case of weather.
Their menu: a mix of traditional tacos, vegetarian & vegan options, plus signature margaritas.
For decor: custom floral arrangements, boho rugs, mismatched chairs, long family-style tables.
Result: an evening under the stars, guests dancing by fire pits, desert night sky overhead. The venue adapted fully to their artistic style.
Another time, a creative company hosted its annual retreat here. Their needs:
A stage, AV setup, breakout spaces.
Branding presence: company colors, banners, presentations.
Meals timed: lunch + dinner + cocktail hour.
Relaxing lounge areas outside, indoor breakout rooms.
They used the indoor building for keynotes & presentations, outdoor patios for lunches + evening social. They branded the spaces with company colors and custom signage. For dinner, a mix of buffet and passed appetizers. And they made sure their guests got that desert escape feel - nature, openness, fresh air-without compromising professionalism.
Versatility of spaces — restored building, expansive patios, fire pits, multiple indoor/outdoor work zones.
Historic character + natural beauty — the restored military building adds historic textures; the desert landscape views + mission bell tower wall + native plant landscaping amplify atmospheric beauty.

To get the most from your customizable space, follow these simple guidelines:
Define Your Priorities Early
What matters most? Guest experience? Food quality? Atmosphere? Having this guide early helps decisions (layout, lighting, timing).
Visit the Space at the Right Time of Day
If you’ll have sunset photos or evening lighting, visit during that lighting. See how the indoor / outdoor transition works.
Consider Flow Between Spaces
How guests will move: ceremony → cocktail hour → dinner → dancing. Make sure walkways, shade/shelter, bathrooms are well planned.
Lighting + Ambiance Are Crucial
In a desert setting, natural light can be magical at golden hour; string lights, lanterns, fire pits later ensure warmth. Lighting transforms the vibe.
Food & Beverage Reflects This Flexibility
Select menus that fit your preferences for casual tacos or buffet or plated vegetarian, gluten-free or special preferences. Drinks: signature cocktails, margaritas, mocktails.
Weather Plans & Comfort
Desert nights can get chilly; indoor backup is great. Shade, fans, heating outdoors if needed. Consider guest comfort for every hour.
Vendor & Decor Coordination
If you’re bringing external vendors, ensure they see the space in advance, coordinate arrival/setup times. Use decor that works with the venue’s existing textures & colors.
Personal Touches Make it Uniquely Yours
Integrate things that matter to you such as photographs, music family heirlooms, your preferred colors. Custom welcome signs, personalized menus, unique seating arrangements.
Your event isn’t just another date in the calendar. It’s a moment people will remember. A story told through space, food, music, people, light, and atmosphere. With a truly customizable event space, you get to be the author of that story.
